At Fafunia, we’ve always believed that the right environment can have a profound impact on a child’s development.

Our journey began over 40 years ago with our founder, Tom, a dedicated nursery nurse with a passion for early years education. Throughout his career, Tom recognised the critical role that well-designed, child-focused environments play in nurturing young minds.

As the owner of multiple nurseries, Tom noticed a significant gap in the market—most available nursery furniture was designed for domestic use and couldn’t withstand the daily demands of a bustling nursery. The furniture often lacked durability, safety, and the practical features necessary for supporting child development and early years learning.

Driven by this need, Tom transformed a small garage at one of his nurseries into a workshop. Collaborating with a skilled carpenter, he began designing and creating bespoke nursery furniture that was not only durable and safe but also conducive to child development. Initially intended for our own nurseries, these innovative pieces quickly gained attention within the sector. Word spread, and soon, others were requesting our child-centred products for their own settings.

As demand grew, so did Fafunia. What started as a modest workshop has now evolved into a trusted name in early years furniture design and nursery interior design. We realised early on that the physical environment is crucial to early years education, and our mission became clear: to create functional, engaging spaces that help children thrive cognitively, emotionally, and socially.

Our growth has allowed us to take on larger projects, including the design and manufacture of bespoke subsidiary spaceslike yoga studios, sensory rooms, and outdoor play areas—all crafted with the unique needs of children in mind. Whether it's a custom climbing frame for outdoor play or an innovative cot that maximises space and protects nursery staff from back strain, every piece is rooted in a deep understanding of how children learn and grow.

Our commitment to sustainability drives us to use only natural materials, such as FSC-certified wood, and eco-friendly finishes like pure beeswax, which is 100% food-safe and toy-safe.
